COUPLES THERAPY

Having the same fight on repeat?

Relationships aren't always easy. Grace help couples work through the real issues, rebuild trust, and find a way forward — together.

ABOUT THIS WORK

What couples therapy at MindAction looks like

Couples therapy here is grounded in the Gottman Method — an evidence-based approach that focuses on helping couples understand what is really happening during conflict and learn practical ways to communicate and reconnect more effectively.

Sessions build on an initial assessment and are shaped around what is bringing you to therapy as a couple. Together, we look at the patterns that tend to show up in your relationship, what escalates conflict, and what gets missed or misunderstood in moments of stress.

The approach is structured, collaborative, and skills-based. The aim is to help you build clearer communication, stronger emotional connection, and more stable ways of relating to one another.

COUPLES THERAPY

The Assessment Package

Before ongoing sessions begin, we run a structured 4-step assessment so Grace understands your relationship fully.

01

INDIVIDUALLY

Online Assessment

We begin with a short online assessment for both partners to complete, helping us understand what's going well and where there may be challenges in your relationship.

02

TOGETHER

Initial Consultation

You and your partner meet with Grace to review the history of your relationship — how your challenges and successes have evolved over time, and what's brought you to therapy now.

03

INDIVIDUALLY

Individual Sessions

Each partner meets with Grace individually to explore personal history, past relationships, mental health, and previous therapy experiences. This helps Grace understand each unique perspective and tailor the work accordingly.

04

TOGETHER

Feedback Session

A joint session where Grace shares the assessment results, addresses current relationship challenges, and offers practical strategies. If ongoing therapy is recommended, a treatment plan will be discussed.

THE GOTTMAN METHOD

Evidence-based couples therapy

The Gottman Method is grounded in decades of research into what makes relationships work, and what causes them to break down.

Understanding conflict

Learning what's really happening beneath the surface when arguments escalate — and how to interrupt unhelpful patterns before they cause lasting damage.

Emotional connection

Rebuilding fondness, admiration, and the day-to-day habits that keep a relationship emotionally close and resilient over time.

Practical skills

Tools you can use outside the session — for managing conflict, improving communication, and responding to each other's needs more effectively.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Before you get in touch

A few things couples usually want to know before booking.

Do both partners need to attend every session?

The assessment package includes both joint and individual sessions — so there are sessions where you'll attend separately. Ongoing sessions are typically joint, though Grace may recommend individual sessions depending on your situation.

What if one of us is reluctant to come?

That's more common than you'd think. Grace is used to working with couples where one partner is more hesitant — and the assessment process is designed to be low-pressure and practical, not confrontational.

Is couples therapy covered by Medicare?

No — couples therapy is not eligible for a Medicare rebate. Individual sessions within the assessment package (Step 3) are charged as part of the overall package fee, not individually.

What's the difference between the assessment package and ongoing sessions?

The assessment package is where Grace gets to know you as a couple — it's structured, thorough, and gives you clear feedback and a plan. Ongoing sessions build on that foundation and are more flexible in focus depending on what you're working on.
